The guild will be sponsoring a Placemat Sew Day on Friday, October 2nd from 9am-3pm at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 5500 N. Adams Road, Troy MI. Join us for a day of fun and creativity! Bring your machine, fabric to use and/or share, and if you have batting remnants, bring those along and we’ll show you how to make Franken-Batting! If you have a mini- iron and ironing surface, please bring them. (other projects are permissible if you just want to sew with us). Lunch is on your own. Brown bags are perfect!
Every year, agencies that support seniors are looking for useful, cheerful, gifts to share with their clients during the holidays. Many of these agencies serve meals so really appreciate handmade, quilted placemats that can be given to individuals in their care. At this point, we have requests for 300 placemats to go to a Meals-On-Wheels provider and a senior care facility. We have other agencies we can commit to when we exceed this number. We are confident that we will find a home for every placemat the guild can provide.
Placemats should be 12-14” tall and 15-17” wide. The smaller placemats are often requested due to space restrictions. We would like to have one side be a winter holiday theme (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year’s, Las Posadas, etc). The other side can be any fabric or design. This is a great place to use your orphan blocks!
